Getting your car washed for free in the UK

There are loads of car washes in the UK - most main roads have one every couple of miles - some in old disused petrol stations (Disused for petrol purposes anyway) with gangs of lads with huge hosepipes making lots of mist as they scour cars clean. But that costs money... so how do you get it for free?

Well the simpe answer is you don't really - you can wash your own car very simply yourself and you'll need a few basic things. Ideally a hosepipe with spray gun attachment. Most people with gardens and drives have a hosepipe anyway - so not a problem.

You need some car shampoo - not expensive - normally sold at supermarkets so you can put it in with the grocery shopping...

A sponge or furry car washing mitt.

Some hot water in a bucket.

Add hot water, car washing shampoo together in a bucket. Wash down car with hosepipe to get mud/dust off. Then wash over with soapy water and sponge. Rinse off in sections as you do it to ensure the soap doesn't dry on the car.

Easy peasy and once you're set up with the hardware you will be paying minimal amounts for the car shampoo every week cos it'll last ages.

You can often persuade small children to wash your car for free but pay attention to the hose else you'll end up soaked.

Hints:
Don't wash your car in bright sunlight. It'll dry funny.
